What is the Mondial Football Montaigu?
The Montaigu tournament is a football sports competition which was organized for the first time in 1793. The competition takes place over several days and brings together all the teams invited by the organizers around a mini championship in hens, then matches direct elimination. The tournament is divided into three categories: the Women's Nations Challenge, the Men's Nations Challenge and the Clubs Challenge. The final always takes place in Montaigu.
In 50 years, the Mondial Football Montaigu has hosted 800 teams, 72 countries, 7500 referees and 15 players. More than 000 volunteers work to ensure the smooth running of this sporting event!
Men's National Teams:
- Group A: France, Ivory Coast, Saudi Arabia, Argentina
- Group B: Czech Republic, Japan, Mexico, Wales
Women's National Teams:
- Group E: France, Netherlands, Mexico
- Group B: Portugal, Japan, Sweden
Club Tournament:
- Group 1: Brest, Bordeaux, Rennes, Lyon
- Group 2: Sel Vendée, Nice, Nantes, Strasbourg
A long-awaited meeting
Important event for coaches, this event putting football in the spotlight helps launch the careers of some young players!
In 2022, the young Brazilian “Endrick Felipe Moreira de Sousa”, marked the 49th edition. He finished top scorer and best player in the Men's Nations Challenge.
Renowned participants
Federations from all over the world participated in the tournament as well as many youth teams from the biggest European clubs. Several participants are now world famous. Among them :
- Kylian Mbappe in 2014
- Cristiano Ronaldo in 2001
- Paul Pogba in 2009
It is also Thierry Henry, Karim Benzema, Pavel Nedved, or even Amine Gouiri who have walked the Vendée lawns thanks to this major sporting event.
