At an altitude of 290m, Saint-Michel-Mont-Mercure (commune of Sèvremont) is the highest commune in Vendée. THE exceptional point of view sits at the top of the church tower.

Sait Michel Mont Mercure is the highest town in Vendée at 290 m altitude, An orientation table is located near the'church. To take even more height, climb to the top of the church tower, it is accessible by a staircase of 199 steps and dominates, at 42 meters in height, the landscape of the bocage vendeen.

The climb to the bell tower for a one-on-one with the Archangel 

A few kilometers from the famous park of Puy du Fou®, the bell tower of Saint-Michel-Mont-Mercure is an unmissable place in the Vendée bocage. Before starting your journey to reach the top of the bell tower, take the time to discover inside the church the life of the statue of the bell tower as seen by the Michelais, inhabitants of the town. A replica of the archangel was even sculpted by a local artist in 2013.

The golden statue that crowns it is the pride of the inhabitants of the town. It represents the Archangel Saint-Michel slaying the dragon, and is an exact replica of the statue made for the Notre-Dame de Fourvière basilica in Lyon at the end of the 1889th century. The workshops where this technical feat came from wanted to show their know-how at the XNUMX Universal Exhibition in Paris, and sent a copy. The parish priest of Saint-Michel-Mont-Mercure did not miss such an opportunity and bought the replica for his church!
