The Sèvre Nantaise is the most important river in the northeast of the Vendée department. It takes its source in gâtine, north of Deux Sèvres and flows into the Loire at Nantes.

Its geography, its history

With a length of 150 km, the Sèvre Nantaise crosses 4 departments to reach its confluence with the Loire at the Ile de Nantes. It is installed on a granite base, from the Armorican Massif, which can be seen thanks to the granite blocks which are flush with the river. These granite chaos are a curiosity that fascinate visitors and hikers and testify to the power of water.

From Cugand to Mallièvre, its winding course is characterized by numerous mills and roads, witnesses of the industrial tradition of the valley linked to textiles and paper. The towns of Cugand and Mallièvre tell you their story.

The omnipresence of water offers visitors an ideal setting for practicing activities in the heart of nature. The valley offers varied landscapes: meadows, bocage paths and forest areas. On foot, by bike, by canoe, take the time to admire its fauna and flora, the heights of the bocage which dominate the Sèvre Nantaise and its villages of character.
