Campsites are developed outdoor sites offering bare land or land equipped with different types of so-called “light” tourist accommodation: mobile homes, caravans, etc.

They are subject to permanent or seasonal operation and welcome customers for whom this is not their main residence. They comply with rules set by the tourism code (art. D. 331-1-1 of the tourism code).

Main regulations

Before any development project and in order to be able to disseminate information on the various media made available to you by Vendée Bocage, it is essential to respect the rules in force concerning the creation of campsites.

  • La prior declaration to the Town Hall is obligatory
  • Identify whether it is a tourist campsite or a leisure campsite
  • The voluntary star rating with a validity of 5
  • The collection and repayment of the tourist tax

 The prior declaration

  • Campgrounds are classified with the mention “ tourism », developed camping and caravanning sites if more than half of the number of sites referred to as “tourist” sites is intended for rental by the night, by the week or by the month for passing customers.
  • Campgrounds are classified with the mention “ Leisure activities », developed camping and caravan sites if more than half of the number of pitches called “leisure” pitches is intended for rental for more than a month by customers who do not take up residence there: art. D. 332-1-1 of the tourism code.

In the event of an increase of more than 10% in the number of locations operated indicated by the classification decision, the operator, if he wishes to have a classification, is required to request a new classification from the competent administrative authority. : art. D. 332-4 of the tourism code.

The planning permission

It is essential from a setup of more than 6 tents.

In Vendée, several organizations support you in the creation of your project:

They can provide you with information on the tourist offer, town planning rules, needs, etc.

The Atout France ranking

As with hotels and furnished accommodation, camping can benefit an ATOUT FRANCE star ranking. An accredited organization carries out a visit to your home with a control grid. In the month following this visit, he will give you a visit certificate.

The “campsite” classification offers two major benefits to the owner:

  • Classified campsites communicate on the stars obtained while formerly classified campsites (according to 1993 standards) having not requested and obtained the new classification, can no longer communicate on their stars since December 31, 2012.
  • Newly classified campsites benefit from 10% VAT instead of 20% for unclassified campsites.
