LE CHÂTEAU DE SIGOURNAIS

Feudal castle (listed historic monument), witness to the military architecture of the Middle Ages with its means of defense: fortified enclosure, archers-gunboats, and covered walkway on machicolations. Magnificent “rafter-forming-truss” framework. The rooms recreate the atmosphere of the end of the 15th century (furniture, armor, mannequins, models).
An exceptional collection of more than 700 territorial coats of arms adorns the walls (municipalities of Vendée – provinces – regions – French departments and their capitals – provinces of European countries). In a guard room, temporary exhibition: “War machines in the Middle Ages” (models). New exhibition in the commons: “Around Napoleon I”.

Strolling show: 16:30 p.m.
The “Knight’s Challenge” for 7 – 11 year olds and a heraldic competition for adults spice up the visit.
