Description

In the XNUMXth century, Puybelliard was a flourishing commercial city, its fairs were recognized throughout the region and up to the Spanish border and attracted a large population. Rue des Dames was the place where one found those who exercised “the oldest profession in the world”. Rue des Venelles and Rue des Remparts are the oldest in Puybelliard.
The tower is the only remnant of the XNUMXth century Château de Puybelliard. Built by the viscount of Thouars, it was used in the XNUMXth and XNUMXth centuries. jail for men.
The church, originally, was only a chapel within the walls of the castle. In the 1562th and XNUMXth centuries, it underwent transformations: fortifications were added during the Hundred Years War, which gave it this massive appearance.
