199 steps to reach the top of the Vendée

At an altitude of 290 m, Saint-Michel-Mont-Mercure (commune of Sèvremont) is the highest commune in Vendée. The exceptional point of view is at the top of the bell tower of the church. It is accessible by a staircase of 199 steps and dominates, 42 meters high. This bell tower is surmounted by a Archangel Michael Statue which was restored and reassembled in September 2013. An orientation table is located near the church.

The commune of Saint Michel Mont Mercure benefits from another panorama of the Vendée bocage. On the road between Saint-Michel-Mont-Mercure and Les Herbiers, facing the Moulin des Justices road, a small car park near the Calvary provides access to a footpath, walk a few meters on the path and discover the point of view, with orientation table.

The Belvedere of Bois des Jarries – Saint Mars la Réorthe 

Le Bois des Jarries in the commune of Saint Mars la Réorthe overlooks the Lay valley, this 60 ha forest massif belongs to the department. Several trails have been set up to explore this forest of oaks and ash trees and undergrowth species such as holly and hawthorn. In the center, a belvedere (at an altitude of 250 m) offers an exceptional view of the bocage landscape.

Access to the Bois des Jarries car park, follow the belvedere path.
